Daegu City Dance Company

The Daegu City Dance Company is Korea’s first public dance company to specialize in contemporary dance. Founded in 1981, it gives annual regular concerts as well as a wide range of special performances. The participation of renowned choreographers and talented dancers from Korea and overseas has allowed the Daegu City Dance Company to stage many high-quality productions that are both popular and artistically sophisticated. Through in-depth reflection on contemporary society, people, and the human body, the dance company is expanding the territory of, and bringing about fundamental changes in, Korean contemporary dance.
 

The Daegu City Dance Company is a major promoter of Daegu as a cultural hub through international exchanges and performances not only across Korea but all throughout Asia and Europe. It blends diverse creative techniques with a cutting-edge environment to remain competitive on the global stage.
 

The Daegu City Dance Company is also committed to interacting with the local community, most notably through programs that give residents of remote areas opportunities to enjoy culture and the arts (e.g. School Dance Concert for elementary school students). It hopes to fulfill its social responsibility by making dance more approachable and continuing to contribute to the advancement of contemporary dance.
