Daegu City Theater Company
Pioneering
the Advancement
of the Dramatic Arts
The Daegu City Theater Company, which staged Rainbow as its inaugural performance on December 4, 1998, aims to embody three core values: artistic excellence, public-mindedness, and popular appeal.
Throughout its 28-year history, the Daegu City Theater Company has not only staged classics/masterpieces and experimental plays but also been deeply committed to developing new works and building its portfolio. Its boundary-pushing efforts allow it to contribute to the advancement of the dramatic arts as well as fulfill its responsibilities as a municipal theater company. In particular, the theater company strives to satisfy citizens’ increasing demand for high-quality productions through works that explore the human psyche.
Communicating with Citizens Through Theater
Theater School is a program held annually for Daegu residents that provides an opportunity to better understand plays and develop acting skills. This unique hands-on experience allows participants to become more comfortable with and knowledgeable about theatrical productions.
The Traveling Performance began as an outreach program for those who have difficulty accessing cultural activities. By giving performances at communal residence facilities, it brings joy to audiences while fulfilling its role as a public organization.
Broader, Deeper: Daegu City Theater Company
Rather than remaining confined to Daegu, the Daegu City Theater Company participates regularly in major theater events throughout Korea (National and Public Theater Festival of Korea and Geochang International Festival of Theatre) as well as in China and various other countries (Edinburgh Festival) to promote the merits of the dramatic arts of Daegu and Korea.
