The Spirit of Choral Music,
Reaching Beyond Daegu
to the World
with One Voice

The Daegu City Choir has thrived through its popularity with locals and is increasingly contributing to Daegu’s visibility as a cultural capital since its launch in May 1981.
In addition to its faithfulness to classical choral music, as demonstrated through its broad repertoire, the Daegu City Choir is also known for its efforts to promote traditional Korean vocal music (e.g. minyo, gagok). It is busy year-round with its regular concerts, special concerts, and Concert on Wheels, as well as various domestic and international invitations.

The choir has developed numerous Korean-style choral pieces in addition to renditions of songs that are experimental while also embodying a distinctly Korean psyche (e.g. contemporary foreign choral music, contemporary Korean, accompaniment-free choral music). In recognition of its talent, it has performed extensively overseas, including in Singapore, Germany (Frankfurt and Karlsruhe), France (Rouen), and the United States (New York and Philadelphia).

In August 2025, Kong Ki-tae was appointed as the Daegu City Choir’s 12th artistic director and principal conductor. The Daegu City Choir plans to continue captivating audiences with its talent and spirit, giving locals the opportunity to enjoy sophisticated cultural experiences and contributing to the advancement of Korean choral music.
